The Full Cost of Motorhome Ownership

Motorhomes are among the most luxurious of RVs, but all that luxury comes with a price. In order to build a better budget, potential buyers need to understand the costs of owning these huge RVs. That is why the experts at McClain's RV Superstores have created this guide to the costs of motorhome ownership.

Motorhome Sticker Price

Class A motorhomes are usually the largest and tend to offer the most features, meaning that they are also usually the most expensive. Class B motorhomes are the smallest and lightest type, making them the cheapest. Class C motorhomes tend to fall between the two, both in terms of size and price range.

If you want to save on the motorhome’s sticker price, consider purchasing a used model. It is also best to buy during the off-season (fall and winter), as this is when most sales tend to occur.

Taxes and Registration

You should also consider additional costs like sales tax, property taxes, and registration fees. On the upside, you may also qualify for tax benefits if you plan to use your motorhome as your primary residence.

Insurance

When you purchase insurance for your motorhome, the cost will vary depending on the type of motorhome, your driving record, and what extra coverage you want to purchase. Find a plan that works for you.

A Motorhome Loan

Many people choose to finance their motorhome purchase. If you go this route, you will have to pay interest, though how much you pay will depend upon the condition of the RV, your credit score, the amount you will be borrowing, and the length of time you will be borrowing. You can check your credit limits here, without a hit on your credit. Travel Costs

There are many costs that you can incur while traveling in your motorhome. For example, you will need to keep the vehicle fueled, though how much you pay will depend upon your motorhome’s fuel efficiency, the speeds at which you drive, and the amount of weight you carry with you.

Regular maintenance like cleaning, oil changes, and electrical repairs can also cost you, especially if you purchase a used motorhome. Utility fees are another concern, although you can reduce the cost by avoiding waste and using energy-efficient appliances.

If you need to store your RV and don’t have enough room on your property, you may need to rent storage space. Options range from a simple outdoor parking spot to a temperature-controlled indoor space, with the latter being more expensive. Campsite fees similarly can cost more or less depending upon location and available features.
